OBULIMBA INNOCENT EKEH
Obulimba Innocent Ekeh hails from Ihiagwa Autonomous community in Owerri-west Local Government Area in Imo State. He is the sixth child of Duru Jonathan N. Ekeh (Duru Chinyere-Ugo) and Lolo Juliana Ihejihu Ekeh.
He attended St. John’s primary school, Ihiagwa after which he proceeded to Holy Ghost College, Owerri also in Imo State where he completed his post-primary education. Thereafter, he gained admission into the prestigious University of Port-Harcourt where he studied Accountancy. He went further for a post graduate course in the University of Science and Technology, Nkpolu, Port-harcourt where he obtained a Masters Degree in Business Administration, majoring in Marketing. He is a Fellow of the institute of Business Administration of the United Kingdom and Nigeria (FICA).
After graduation from school, Obulimba Innocent Ekeh worked with Union Bank PLC as a bank officer and later, Ashlard Oil Company, Portharcourt as an accountant.
Ekeh started his own companies, Mac’ Nathans Ltd, a civil construction firm and MasterChef, a catering firm with branches in many cities of Nigeria. He remained the CEO/MD of these firms until he offered himself for elective office in 2007 and 2001. He is also not a stranger in the political landscape of Imo State as he remained the Deputy Chairman of APGA in Imo State for many years.
Obulimba Innocent Ekeh has been honoured with several awards by academic, social,political and other non-governmental organizations for his outstanding contributions to humanity. He has also been conferred several titles by communities/kingdoms within and outside Imo State. He however holds in high esteem the title of Nze Obulimba which was conferred on him by his own community.
Ekeh represented Owerri-West State Constituency in Imo State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015.
In a rare community Development programme which emphasizes sustainable empowerment, Obulimba Empowerment Foundation set up ten (10) Co-operative Societies evenly spread across his constituency especially for widows and the less privileged. Areas covered by these Co-operatives includes but not limited to Fishery, Poultry farming and cassava farming etc. Obulimba believes that secure environment will always attract /enhance businesses. Thus, hefloated Owest Security and Protocol services Limited, which provides empowerment for Owerri-West ex-servicemen who are still able.
He was appointed as the Imo State Commissioner for Community Government, Culture & Traditional Affairs by Governor Rochas Okorocha in December 2015 and sworn into office in January 2016.
