DR. PASCHAL CHIGOZIE OBI
Principal Secretary to the Governor
Dr. Paschal Chigozie Obi was born on July 15, 1970 to the humble family of Chief Edwin Eluwa Obi – Mmeje (A.K.A Akwuete) of Umuduruanyanwu Village in Obiohia Autonomous Community of Ideato South Local Government of Imo State.
He obtained his First School Leaving Certificate (FSLC) from Community Primary School, Obiohia in 1982. He had his Secondary Education at the Comprehensive Secondary School, Urualla, in Ideato North Local Government Area, where he passed with flying colours in the West African School Certificate Examination in 1987. He later gained admission into the Optometry Department of Abia State University, Uturu and graduated as a Doctor of Optometry in 1993.
Dr. Obi’s quest for knowledge led him to the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus where he bagged a Masters Degree in Public Health in 2010.
Before his appointment as permanent Secretary and the Principal Secretary to the Governor of Imo State in June 2011, Dr. P.C Obi had worked in the Ministry of Health, Owerri as an Ag. Director in the State ministry of Health. He was also the co-coordinator, National Programme for Prevention of Blindness (Vision 2020).
A devout Christian and Community Leader of note, Dr. Obi’s propensity for service to God and humanity is inordinate. He contributed immensely to the building the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Obiohia.
He was re-appointed as Principal Secretary to the Governor in April 2015 after Rochas Okorocha won a second term in office.
His contributions to the improvement of the lots of the Clergy and parishioners of the Christ the King Church, Shell Camp, Owerri, have earned him ecclesiastical accolade. This is evidenced in his investiture on the 20th August, 2011 as a distinguished member of the Order of the Knight of St. Mulumba (KSM).
A jolly good fellow, Dr. Paschal Chigozie Obi, is a lover of peace. He brought this rare quality to bear on the peaceful resolution of the Ezeship tussle in his community. This, no doubt, culminated in the enthronement of the rightful Eze as the Royal Highness of Obiohia Autonomous Community. Ever since then, Obiohia has witnessed lasting peace and tranquility.
A quintessential family man with uncommon hue, Dr. Obi is happily married to Mrs. Jennifer Ifeoma Obi (LSM), a graduate of Mass Communication and Personnel Staff of Alvan Ikoku Federal College of Education, Owerri. They are blessed with five children.
