D.COS Domestic, Attorney General Others identify with Imo First Lady Over FGM/C
Deputy Chief of Staff Domestic and Internal Affairs Imo State Government House, Honourable Mrs Ogechi Ololo has joined forces with the First Lady of the State Nneoma Nkechi Okorocha to spearhead the campaign against Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting.
Speaking to newsmen in Owerri, the Deputy Chief of Staff expressed conviction that the end of the Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting was far over due and called for a collective effort to eradicate it.
She described it as a harmful practice that should be discontinued, stating that sensitization message should be taken to all the communities in the state so that the message will spread far and wide to reach majority of the mothers and the girl child.
The Deputy Chief of Staff Domestic and Internal Affairs, who was of the opinion that women and the girl child no longer need to suffer from the harmful practice anymore, urged them not to relent in the campaign against female Genital Mutilation.
Speaking in his capacity as the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barrister Milletus Nlemadim, assured the willingness and readiness of the state judiciary to review the relevant laws that will prohibit Female Genital Mutilation and Cutting, saying; they will work hard to ensure it comes to an end
Adding her voice the Commissioner for Works and Transport Honourable Mrs Josephine Udorji; who is also the National Coordinator of Women For Rochas said they will rally round the First Lady to give her undiluted support in spreading the campaign.
The Commissioner for Community Government Council and Traditional Affairs Chief Obulimba Innocent Eke,described it as a culture that should be thrown away, stating that any culture that has not added valued to the life and health of the people should be abolished
The Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Rt Honourable Acho Ihim said the state house of assembly will not fail to give the necessary legislative support and work in harmony with the Imo State First Lady to eradicate it, he called on other state house of assemblies to emulate them.
In her contribution, the Speaker Imo Children`s Parliament Miss favour Nneji called on parents and donor agencies to join hands to eradicate the harmful practice.
Other well meaning indigenes of Imo State who participated in the programme promised to join forces with the First Lady to ensure the eradication of the harmful practice.
Highlights of the occasion was the inauguration of the Ambassadors, from the ward, local government and state levels. Imo State First lady is the state Ambassador.
