Imo State Governor, Owelle Anayo Rochas Okorocha has stressed the need for the National Defense College Abuja to carry out a well detailed, insightful and comprehensive research that will proffer the needed solution to critical challenges facing the country.

The state governor gave the charge when Senior Military Officers from National Defense College Abuja, currently participating in the Course 25 Research Study for the year 2016 visited him at the Government House Owerri.

The theme of the 2016 research study is `Food Security, as an Aspect of National Security. The course 25 participants will use Imo as a case study in their research programme.

Governor Okorocha said the 2016 theme is timely, considering what the country is passing through now, he urged them to go extra-mile to unravel if the real problem of Nigeria is recession, ignorance or poverty, saying `most times we treat symptoms of a disease in this country instead of the sickness.`

He went on to state that one of the major mistakes the country made was to abandon the agricultural sector, because of oil boom. He also recalled that before the oil boom, agriculture provided over 85 percent jobs and over 75 percent of the foreign exchange.

Imo State Governor observed that things fell apart when the country shunned to pay maximum attention to the agriculture sector as a significant aspect of her productive economy. He said `let us face this crack in our foundation and fix it once and for all`

Earlier in his speech, the leader of the course 25 participants from the National Defense College, Air Vice Marshal Humphrey Opara explained that their research study will include visitation to strategic project sites in the state to enable them carry out the work from an informed position.

He described Okorocha as a visionary and productive governor and a politician with foresight and scored him high for all his numerous achievements in the state and beyond.

The team leader came in company of the Medical Officer Dr. Nneka Onyeka, the team coordinator, Navy Captains and other senior military officers.
