Over 20,000 citizens to participate in Imo Carnival 2016 – SA Arts/Culture

The Special Adviser to Imo State Governor on Arts and Culture, Mr. Paddy Obinna has said that the state government has stepped up effort to ensure a bigger and better 2016 Imo Carnival.

Mr Obinna who made the revelation, Wednesday when Government House ICT Media Crew paid him a courtesy visit in his office, also said that over 20,000 Imo citizens are expected to participate in the festival.

The SA defined carnival as a business enterprise - a boom time for artists, costumiers, tailors, photographers, transporters and hoteliers in the state.

According to the SA, “There will be a lot to sell by the food vendors and drink sellers. It is a boom time for hoteliers and those in the entertainment industry because tourists are coming in to stay and watch.”

The Artist turned politician also hinted that Imo State is a tourist destination, and people from the neighbouring states of Abia, Anambra, Enugu, Rivers and Bayelsa will come into the state for the carnival.

On what will make the carnival unique, the SA revealed that there will be a longer route parade, with adjudication points where comedians and musicians will display to the cheers of Imo citizens and prizes will be given to the best performers, costumiers and dancers. He also said that there will be a better organized traffic flow so that the parade will not be disrupted.

However, the carnival has been tentatively fixed for 19th – 22nd December, whereas activities will commence on the 5th of December.
